This is a question we get on a regular basis, and with good grounds. At a very early age we are trained to love stones. We’re trained that they’re very precious. After we look at movies, we notice everyone attempting to take precious gems; this could be diamond gems, emeralds, rubies or a whole variety of gem stones. We constantly observe advertising in regards to the diamond or the ruby inside the ring or necklace or bangle. You never hear the jewelry ad selling the gold or platinum the gemstone is set in. So, as a civilization we have the perception that gem stones are valued a lot. Actually, many people believe they are worth thousands of dollars. And much more importantly, a lot of people suppose the gem stones are more valuable then the precious metals encircling the diamond.
After buying gold for three years and seeing seriously thousands of ounces of precious metals, We are able to informing you this is not the case. Occasionally we’ll see a gem stone that’s worth a couple of thousand dollars. But the other 99.9% of the time, this is just not the reality.
We found this out at a very early stage of purchasing gold. We had a customer that had, what she presented to be: “unusual-African diamonds.” At this time, we did not actually have a diamond tester. We believed the woman’s story and informed her we had no use for diamonds as we did not have any person to sell them to. To acquire her business, we agreed to take the stones and attempt to sell them for the lady for no cost.
What we found was very interesting. We assumed there would certainly be jewelers enthusiastic about uncommon-African diamond gems. So we picked up the phone and began calling all neighboring, jewelers we could find. We ended up being shocked. All and I mean every discussions went exactly like this:
Hello, We have four rare-African diamonds I’m trying to put up for sale.
Okay, are they at least a full karat each?
Let me get this strait. Are you asking if they’re apiece a whole karat?
Yes I am.
Unfortunately I believe they are simply a quarter karat apiece.
Okay, then we’re not involved in buying them.
But they’re unusual-African diamonds and the appearance is very stunning.
Sorry sir, we don’t evaluate diamonds less than one whole karat in size, every now and then we will consider viewing a diamond if it’s at the very least a 1/2 karat, but we are positively not serious about 1/4 karat no matter where they came from.

Each experience was like that. Therefore in our belief, gem stones had no importance to our business since we didn’t know anybody that may acquire them from our corporation.
Fast forward a year. Since almost all people leave the diamonds and gems in their gold, we do get them out and save them because, clearly why wouldn’t a person? At long last, a gentleman came into our business. He stated he drove from Houston, Texas and would like to pay money for any loose diamonds and gems from our corporation. This was a first for us, so we thought, why not?
We had gathered about 40 karats of diamond gems by this moment. He looked the diamonds over and offered our business an offer of three-hundred dollars. Three hundred dollars. For a reasonably sufficient sized bag of diamonds. We countered with five-hundred dollars. I mean geez, he was the only guy which was offering, and we could have used $500 then.
The gentleman declined our offer and went home. We were in complete shock. Only three-hundred dollars for this many diamonds. What is going on here? So from that minute forward, we’ve decided to stay away from the diamond industry. We are more then happy to pull out diamonds for customers that express a desire to preserve them for a number of motives, nevertheless we have no plan on buying gem stones to try to re-sale. I hope this clears the air on why we work the way we do.
