Will Julius Malema be president

From Village boy to President! Sounds like a fairytale …. or is it?

To most right thinking people Julius Malema is the village idiot. How can someone continually be so controversial with actions and statements that are so inflammatory and ill-considered? What s even more astounding is the token action that the authorities take: take for example his Kill the Boer, Kill the farmer . Not only is this non re-conciliatory and inflammatory but it contravenes the law on hate speech. He s found guilty, but repeats this within days. Surely a jail sentence would be appropriate no: not only are there no consequences to his actions, but the ruling party backtrack and come up with an idiotic excuse that this is part of the struggle rhetoric and as such is not hate speech! Are we getting the picture yet ….. Blacks are in power and call the shots!!!

Julius makes defamatory statements about Zuma s rape victim; is found guilty and ordered to pay a fine within a specified time. He ignores the ruling and is surely to be arrested or at least have his possessions attached! No not at all … he hasn t paid, and still walks the streets!

He promises wheel chairs to a group of disabled but puts down a paltry deposit and then dishonours the agreement. He promises shoes to a group of barefoot school-goers nothing materialises.

How does an unremarkable mentally and intellectually challenged individual continue to garner support. Obviously he s got the support of a certain sector of the population .. in fact I believe his values mirror those of the majority of Black South Africans. These people have no perception of cause and effect or consequence to their actions. His defiance of authority and the rule of law, as well as his blatant racist stance, is admired by the masses. Hence his support.

Malema is a natural politician he has an incredible understanding of his following and what drives them. It s got nothing to do with a political stance, it s about making the right noises to maintain your support. There s no doubt that his sights are set on the presidency. He s not afraid to but head with senior ANC party members (Even his President) if he believes his stance to be popularist. When the Eskon chairmanship debacle surfaced he was the first to make a statement a controversial one at that. His President s silence was deafening. Once again he intuitively saw the gap and took it!

He s also emotionally stunted with a very low tolerance, which when coupled to his challenged intelligence often sees him reacting to people and situations (Will we ever forget the episode with the British Journalist .. or the myriad of hilarious infantile comments.)

These are the persons qualities ; but equally important are the circumstances in SA at the moment: Unemployment is increasing; the youth are not capable of passing rudimentary standards of education; service delivery is not being achieved; Nationalisation is seen as a saviour of the nation … and above all he has no reasonable challenge to his quest to be President.

Heaven help us … and will the last one out, please feed the Dolphins and switch the lights off.

Julius Malema is a prominent player in the South African landscape .. how serious is his challenge to become president
